Social Assistance for the Furthest Behind: Launch of the People Pillar Synthesis

The Global SDG Synthesis Coalition is launching its new People Pillar synthesis, co-led by UNICEF Evaluation Office, UNDP Independent Evaluation Office, UN Women Independent Evaluation Service, WFP Office of Evaluation, and UNESCO Evaluation Office.

The synthesis focuses on social assistance, specifically voucher and in-kind transfer programmes designed to reach people who are often left behind, including gender-, age- and disability-responsive interventions.

Drawing on 154 impact evaluations and evidence syntheses, and 94 UN-led evaluations, it examines:

  • What voucher and in-kind transfer programmes work for those furthest behind 🎯
  • How and why social assistance contributes to outcomes across SDGs 1–5 ⚙️
  • What design, implementation and contextual factors shape results 🧩
  • Where key evidence gaps remain 🔎

At this launch event, senior leaders and experts will discuss how to translate evidence into policy, programming and investment decisions that support more effective peacebuilding and governance efforts.
